Recovery Environment Reflection Activity

Purpose:
To help clients increase insight into how their physical, social, and emotional environments influence substance use and recovery, and to identify areas that support or hinder sobriety.

Instructions:
Reflect honestly and answer the following five questions. There are no right or wrong answers. The goal is awareness and insight.


1. Physical Environment

How does your current living environment (home, neighborhood, daily surroundings) impact your recovery—either positively or negatively?


2. Social Environment

Who do you spend the most time with, and how do these relationships influence your substance use or recovery efforts?


3. Triggers vs. Supports

What specific places, people, or situations in your environment act as triggers for substance use, and which ones support your sobriety?


4. Structure and Routine

How does your daily structure (or lack of structure) in your environment affect cravings, motivation, and accountability?


5. Environmental Changes

What is one change you could make to your environment (physical, social, or routine-based) that would strengthen your recovery?
